Tour experience

The Legacy Building at the National Western Center,  is the new headquarters of the Western Stock Show Association It's a four-story, 115,000-square-foot, built to a 100-year standard, where heavy timber trusses, weathered steel, and Colorado Buff Sandstone carry the character of Denver's historic stockyards into a modern gathering place.

It's a steel and slab-on-deck frame that puts exposed wood exactly where people gather: heavy timber trusses in the National Western Club and a CLT vaulted ceiling crowning the fourth floor. On this tour, you'll hear directly from the project team as they walk through how a $100 million, donor-funded building puts wood to work inside a hybrid structure.

What makes this project stand out?

  • The National Western Club. Heavy timber trusses, hand-crafted chandeliers, and a monumental stone hearth anchor a club space that projects straight into the CoBank Arena, placing guests above the livestock shows below.
  • A CLT vaulted ceiling over the fourth floor. One dramatic wood moment inside an otherwise steel and concrete skeleton, and a clear case study in choosing where exposed timber belongs.
  • The Legacy physically integrates with the adjacent Livestock Center, including a cantilevered arena-view suite.
  • A locally rooted material palette. Weathered steel, Colorado Buff Sandstone, glass, and wood, scaled and detailed to answer the historic Livestock Exchange buildings next door.

Your guides from Tryba Architects, Martin/Martin, Lam-Wood Systems & Saunders Construction will walk you through how they held craft standards on a 100-year building, and had every trade coordinating their work to catch clashes before they hit the field.
